Leoš Janáček: String Quartet No. 2

The Janáček Quartet was founded at the Conservatoire in Brno in 1947. With excellent interpretation of works by Leoš Janáček, the ensemble soon gained the right to use a name of its beloved author. In 1955, Janáček's quartet, formed by Jiří Trávníček, Adolf Sýkora, Jiří Kratochvíl and Karel Krafka, took part in the first foreign tour and after several years the ensemble covered all the continents with their activity. The Janáček Quartet successfully represented Czech - Moravian interpretation tradition in fifty - five states and major world festivals, which led to the interest of well - known recording companies in cooperation. From the rich discography of the ensemble, two titles were awarded the Grand Prix de l'Akademie de Charles Gross and one was honored with the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. In more than seventy years of artistic activity, the ensemble changed several times their members, but the interpretation canon and expressive style of playing remain the traditional picture of the Janáček Quartet.
